Wayne Farms provides the highest quality poultry products to the food service, consumer packaged goods, export and retail industries. Primus was selected to provide turn-key design and construction solutions for an expansion to their Dothan, AL plant.
The approximately 50,000 SF expansion features a -40° Variable Retention Time (VRT) freezer, -10° freezer, a machine room, conveyor corridor and a palletizing area connected to the existing facility.
Chicken is brought via conveyor to the VRT and flash frozen. Shelving rotates the chicken and allows it to reach core temperatures required by the USDA faster. As a result, Tyson can now move 140 chickens per minute through the freezing process.
