Our History

How it Began

Rich O’Connell and Erik Gunderson founded Primus in 2000 with Dean Soll of Subzero. Their mission: to build the best buildings with the best people. They started by providing exceptional, big-project style service on smaller cold storage distribution projects. Primus has since grown into the leading provider of design-build-automate services for complex cold storage, grocery and manufacturing projects across the United States.

Primus has expanded to include four divisions: Primus Design Services, LLC; Primus Builders, Inc.; Primus Thermal Division; and our automation design division, Primus Solutions Group. Each unit specializes in a specific component of the design-build-automate process that collectively forms the foundation of the firm’s single-source approach. Because all four divisions are in-house, communication is effortless, which allows us to implement your plans into a single agenda that delivers on your business goals.
