Canaan, CT – Becton-Dickinson (BD) hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony in Canaan to mark the grand opening of its 22,500 SF building expansion. Primus provided design and construction services on the project.
“This is a great day for BD, a great day for our customers, and a great day for Connecticut,” said Plant Manager Jacqueline Colon in her opening remarks.
The expansion brings the total square footage of the facility to 360,000 SF. The Canaan plant produces and packages the industry’s most innovative injection and infusion-based drug delivery systems that are then sterilized on site utilizing state-of-the-art e-beam technology.

“The new asset is a testimony to BD’s commitment to its customers to provide the highest standard of excellence in everything they do.” said Primus Vice President Tony Pitrone who served as project executive during design and construction. The material handing control system has 12 times the ram of NASA’s space shuttle control computer. Each carton travels about 1/3 of a mile through the conveying system which has more than 150 motors with 47 motor drives and more than 500 photo eyes and 12 barcodes.
Many of BD’s world-wide management team were on hand to support the event including Bill Tozzi, World Wide President MPS; James Bonzi, Vice President of Global Operations; Steve Bohnet, World Wide Vice President, MPS; Ajoy Mahtab, Vice President of Marketing: Richard Byrd, Vice President/General Manager MPS; and Doug Parrish, Vice President of Sales, Vascular Access & Infusion, MPS. President Bill Tozzi and Vice President Doug Parrish received special dedications.
